Kitzbühel - Tyrol, Austria

Snowboard, Ski

Named as the best ski resort in Austria, Kitzbüel or Kitz as it is also named, is in Tyrol, Austria. It is eighty kilometres from Salzburg and internationally known for having the most important world cup descent. Since 1931 the Hahnenkamm or Streif descent is one of the biggest challenges that the best skiers in the world face due to the speed and difficulty of the legendary piste.

You’ll find pistes for all levels in this resort. There are 51 modern lifts to take you to the 170 kilometres of pistes which cover 300 hectares. Heaps of virgin snow, runs between trees and well maintained pistes like the Streif connect the neighbouring towns. You can go night skiing every Thursday and Friday from 18:30 until 21:30, in Gaisberg, Kirchberg.

The Bichlam and Jochberg zones are where freeriders can enjoy some very good off piste runs but the El Dorado zone stands out as the traverse for advanced riders as it extends across Tyrol and Salzburg. There are various events like the Kitzbüel Freeride Weeks where the resort organises off piste routes throughout the whole of January.

Freestylers can head to the Horn zone where there are two world class snowparks with all kinds of elements as well as a slalom run and a boardercross course. The Mercedes Snowpark which was designed by Josef Lechner has a classic mix of elements focussed towards slopestyle. There are twelve kickers, three long rails, twelve boxes and five modules. Also, the Kitzbüeler Zone is where you can practise your tricks on the terrain between the trees. Kitzbühel has its main ski area on one side of the valley and the smaller one on the other. The main area is shared with the Kirchberg resort. There are seven ski areas in the region and with the KitzsAlps AllStarCard you can enjoy them all.

Thanks to the artificial snow system and the good maintenance of the pistes, the resort is open for the winter season from mid November until the end of April. You’ll find the best snow conditions during January, February and March.
