Murau - Styria, Austria

Kreischberg is located in the region of Styria in the Gurktal Alps, Austria. It’s quite a small resort with 40 kilometres of wide slopes, both above and below the tree line, with stunning views of the incredible landscape. Millions of Euros have been invested in the addition of the Riegleralm, a new ten person gondola for the 2013/14 season. The resort is popular with snowboarders as there are no ascending runs, plus there are extras like deep freeriding areas for adventure seekers. Although the resort mainly consists of blue and red runs which are perfect for carving, there are more difficult valley runs for the more experienced. If you wish to extend your skiing area, you have the option to buy a lift pass which covers Lachtal and Kreischberg, two of the most popular ski mountains in the Styria region. To access the resort, the nearest airport is Salzburg and the nearest train station is Kitzbuhel.

The longest run, Rosenkranzhoehe, is 7km long, covers three pistes, and has an altitude difference of 1250 m. There is also a free speed measurement course and a permanent slalom racecourse which costs just one Euro per run. The resort also works with Skiline, a system that allows you to see your daily activity stats on the internet. There is plenty to keep the kid’s entertained with a fun park, tubing and lots more.

The stylish snowpark, Airypark, was built in the 2006/7 season near to the base area so it’s easy to access. The exciting park has rails, sliders, kickers, boxes, a superpipe, a wallride, corners/hips, waverides and pro, med and easy lines. The halfpipe is said to be Europe’s largest and it is lit at night during competitions. There are also kid’s boxes, kickers and a kid’s halfpipe. Kreischberg will host the FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard WM from 15-25 January 2015, a welcome return as the last snowboard World Championships were held there in 2003.

The resort is usually open from around the beginning of December until the beginning of April. Good snow coverage throughout season is pretty much guaranteed due to the 80 modern snow making machines which cover 90% of slopes. The lifts operate from 8:30 am until 6 pm.
