Panorama Mountain Village

Panorama Mountain Village

Panorama - British Columbia, Canada

Snowboard, Ski

Panorama Mountain Village is located in the Purcell Mountains, in the southeast of British Columbia, Canada. After a recent big investment, especially in the fast cable cars, it is now among the best resorts in the world, however, the advantage for riders is that it still isn’t as well known, and therefore isn’t as busy, as its neighbouring resorts in British Columbia such as Lake Louise and those in Banff so your only concern will be choosing which route to take. It has the best climate and the average temperature is higher than other Canadian resorts due to its geographical orientation. The panoramic views of Mount Nelson and the rest of the Rockies from the 2.400 metre summit are incredible.

Panorama has an enormous ski area with over 1.100 hectares and a 1.225 metre vertical drop, two snowparks and 120 pistes for all levels, although the majority are for intermediates and advanced. There is a wide range of runs, from long wide cruisers which take you right to the door of your accommodation, powder filled tree lines and plenty of bumps on the black pistes for the more advanced. The ex-heli-skiing territory in the Taynton Bowl is full of diamond blacks and fresh powder stashes and it’s all in-boundary with lift access. You’ll also find challenges with the double black diamond runs in the Extreme Dream Zone.

For freestylers there are two snowparks. The main park is called Showoff Park as it attracts experienced riders. It’s almost a mile long with two lines filled with obstacles and some really big jumps. You can watch what’s going on in the park from the Mile 1 quad chair. The Rockstar Park is for all levels and has jumps, spines, rails, boxes and moguls along with the various rails and boxes in the Skier and Boarder Cross run.

The resort usually opens for the winter season at the beginning of December and closes at the end of April. As always, the exact dates depend on the conditions but although Panorama isn’t particularly high, the snowfall is light and dry and tends to be retained well, however, they also have snowmaking facilities on 40% of the main runs.
