Milnerton – Cape Town, South Africa

Milnerton Beach is located just a few kilometres from Cape Town. The water is often cold due to the Benguela current that flows along the west coast of Africa, and the wind is quite strong, making it not such a great place to swim but a perfect place to windsurf. The best time to go is between October and March. The best waves come with SW wind and they are often more than two metres, being even bigger during the winter months but it’s a lot colder. From here, if you can organise for someone to pick you up, you can do a fantastic downwinder to Table View. Sunset Beach is often crowded, if so, you have the option of going further upwind to Milnerton where there will be less people.

The wave is very similar to Sunset but the wind is a little more offshore, being generally better for waveriding more than jumping. It’s powerful and the wind tends to be a bit gusty, becoming very strong in the late afternoon like at Sunset. It also becomes more offshore.
