Cross-country skiing or snowshoeing are recommended alternatives as there are various routes and guide services on offer. You can even try out your shooting skills by doing biathlon with qualified coaches. The Hundsfeld trail is 6 km long and starts behind the Lüzer Alm hotel. The World Cup trail is 10 km long and starts at the Gamsleiten chairlift. The Gnadenalm trail is 15 km long and it starts 4 km before Obertauern, when coming from Radstädt. The Twenger Au trail is 23 km long and connects to Tweng and Mauterndorf, from where you will have fantastic views, and finally Taurach is 13 km long and connects Untertauern to Radstädt.
There is an ice rink in the resort, as well as a snow park with tube runs and offers of dogsled rides. You can visit the Wildpark Untertauren for free and see a wide variety of animals. Guides are available to help you spot deer, various birds and unique flora. There is also a petting zoo for children. The nightlife in the resort is lively. In the afternoon at 15:30, you could go to Edelweissalm to enjoy some après ski drinks along with rock music. At night, you could go to Mundwerk, Taverne or L’Atchen Alm. The resort was also the location for part of The Beatles’ ‘Help’ video which was filmed in 1965.
