Alpe d’Huez is known as ‘L’ile au soleil’ (island in the sun) as it is the resort which enjoys the most sunlight hours in the whole of the Alps. You can enjoy this good weather on and off the slopes. The village has a wide variety of restaurants and bars but they can be a little expensive. If you want to do something different, an alternative could be to visit Ecrins National Park where there are plenty of hiking routes to discover in the 90.000 hectares, with many peaks of over 3.000 metres and forty glaciers which together make it a beautiful and unique place.
A visit to the neighbouring station of Les Deux Alpes is recommended if you have a spare day. It’s only forty five minutes away and if you have a 6 day lift pass you can enjoy a free day there. It’s worth a visit as it’s a fabulous resort which has its highest peak at 3.600 metres, covers 410 hectares, and has a world class snowpark. There are some companies near to Sata town that offer hang-gliding and microlight flights, allowing you to enjoy the incredible birds eye view of the glistening peaks. There are also some companies in the base of the resort which offer speedriding and paragliding.
