Big Bay

Bloubergstrand – Cape Town , South Africa

Cape Town is host to many incredible beaches, mountains, forests, vineyards and deserts, all within an hour of the city. It started to take preference in the nineties when European windsurfers were searching for a greater variety of spots, from fresh water lakes to world class reefbreaks. Other nearby windsurf spots are Little Bay, Haakgat, Milnerton Beach and Sunset Beach. From Big Bay you can see Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for nearly 30 years, and the spectacular Table Mountain which is beautiful, especially at sunrise and sunset. Most postcard pictures of Table Mountain are taken from here. If you want a break from the water, a visit to Table Mountain, one of the world’s seven natural wonders, is recommended. You can go up the mountain by cable car and from there you’ll experience the immense views of the horizon and Cape Town. It’s common to see ‘jiving’, a traditional method of extracting mussels, on the Bloubergstrand beaches. The wine tasting tours are also famous in this area.
