Sunset Beach

Sunset Beach

Milnerton – Cape Town, South Africa

Sunset Beach is a suburb in Cape Town which has incredible views of Table Mountain and the coast. It’s a spot where the water is generally cold due to the Benguela current that flows along the west coast of Africa. The best time to sail there is between November and March. The best waves appear with SE and NW winds, they often vary in size. The beach breaks produce rights and lefts and if the wind isn’t too strong you can do some epic wave riding. This spot can occasionally get very crowded, if so, you can head upwind towards Milnerton.

It’s a very strong beach break with various sections. It can sometimes be a little unpredictable and the wind is often quite gusty. It’s nearly always better to sail in the morning as the wind gets too strong later on. The wind direction is side shore becoming a little more offshore in the afternoon. You can practice your jumps but the conditions are often better for wave riding. It's possibly the busiest windsurfing spot in South Africa.
