The exposed pointbreak has fairly consistent waves. The best wind component is N because NE is too offshore. It is the island’s longest wave when there is a big swell. The wave starts where the Curral Joul spot ends and it ends in a small bay just before the ‘Little Ho’okipa’ spot. If you go towards the rocks it can be dangerous and it will normally break all of your equipment because they are sharp and there are sea urchins.
Point break expuesto que tiene olas bastante consistentes. El viento Norte es la mejor dirección porque el Noreste es demasiado offshore. Es la ola más larga de la isla cuando el swell está grande. La ola empieza donde acaba el spot de Curral Joul y termina en una pequeña bahía antes de otro spot llamado ‘little Hookipa’. Si arriesgas y vas a las rocas es peligroso, normalmente rompes todo tu material porque las rocas son de punta y hay erizos.
Along with Ponta Preta, Alibaba is one of the best waves in Cape Verde. It’s an exposed reefbreak which has fairly consistent waves and is located north of Monte Leão. There isn’t much around it apart from volcanic rock but with a big swell it’s worth a visit as the clean face of the wave runs from the north of the bay, 500 metres offshore. It only works with N-NE wind, E already being too offshore.
The waves are often quite long, so good for improving your sailing between the beginning and end. If you watch the Windsurf Cape Verde video you’ll see how Josh Angulo sails at full speed for ninety seconds. To go in here you should be in good shape as you may have to swim against the current to get to the shore. Leão, also known as the secret spot, is very near to Alibaba and both tend to be uncrowded.
Junto con Ponta Preta, Alibaba es una de las mejores olas en Cabo Verde. Se trata de un reef break expuesto que tiene olas bastante consistentes, situado al Norte de Monte Leão. No hay muchas cosas alrededor excepto roca volcánica, pero merece la pena con gran swell, ya que la cara limpia de la ola corre desde el N de la bahía, 500 metros offshore. Solo funciona con viento N-NE, del E ya es demasiado offshore.
La ola suele ser bastante larga, buena para mejorar la conducción entre el comienzo y el final. Si ves el video ‘Windsurf Cabo Verde’ comprobarás como Josh Angulo navega a toda velocidad durante 90 segundos. Para entrar aquí es recomendable estar en forma, ya que puede ser necesario nadar en la corriente para poder llegar a la orilla. For the same reason the fishing is very good and you can try Jigging, a popular vertical deep water fishing technique that allows you to catch larger prey.
Una versión poco común y original en cuanto a isla tropical se refiere, Isla de Sal, es una isla de contrastes, en ocasiones su aridez se asemeja a un paisaje lunar en toda regla.
