It’s a mechanical wave that doesn’t matter if breaks with 2 or 8 feet as it’s exactly the same, it just changes in size and some of the sections become hollower. The season starts in April and runs through to October, when the Antarctic Ocean is pumping with the best swells from the south. A north wind component and southeast swell with 5 or 6 feet are the perfect conditions for all of its sections to break. From Macaronis, it bowls through the barrel which leads to the second section of the Gonzo Bowl and finishes on the inside of Lockjaws, in the fastest and shallowest part. You need to keep in mind that there is sometimes a current when the tide rises.

La temporada empieza desde abril hasta octubre, cuando el Océano Antártico bombea con los mejores swell procedentes de sur. El viento de componente norte y un swell de sureste con 5, 6 pies son las condiciones perfectas para que rompan todas sus secciones. Desde Macaronis bowls pasando por el barrel que da paso a la segunda sección de Gonzo Bowl para terminar en el inside de Lockjaws, la parte más rápida y seca. Hay que tener en cuenta que a veces hay un poco de corriente cuando sube la marea.

Pasta Point was discovered in 1973 by Tony Hussein, considered the father of surf in the Maldives, when his boat capsized whilst en route between Sri Lanka and Reunion. The result was that while the rest of the crew left, Tony stayed as he knew the extraordinary potential the waves in the Maldives possessed. Eventually he converted to Islam, as required by the rules of the country, and married a Maldivian. He spent his days at Pasta Point, eating pasta at the Italian restaurant that was there and that was the reason for its curious name. He managed to keep it a secret until the Tari Village Resort appeared in 1980.

Here it’s unusual for more than eight people to be in the water, the rest of the surfers, each time more, are distributed around the other good waves that are nearby like Sultans, Honky’s and Jails, which was also discovered and named by Tony. Pasta Point is one of the most consistent waves in the North Male atoll because there’s a 40 metre deep channel just in front that directs the sets towards the reef. A mechanical wave that opens up well with any size, very rippable and always enough punch. Pasta Point en las islas Maldivas es una de las olas privadas del atolón de Male Norte. Un paraíso de aguas cristalinas con un Point break de izquierdas de clase mundial, un lugar donde pronto conoces con quienes vas a compartir la sesión dentro de ese número limitado de huéspedes que admite el único y lujoso Resort ubicado en frente de la ola. Pasta Point fue descubierta en 1973 por Tony Hussein, el padre del surf en Maldivas. Tony estaba embarcado en una ruta entre Sri Lanka y Reunión, el barco en el que iba naufragó y mientras el resto de la tripulación se marchó, Tony se quedó porque sabía el extraordinario potencial de surf que poseían las islas Maldivas. El tiempo pasó e incluso se convirtió al Islam como exigían las normas del país, se casó con una maldiviana y pasando sus días en Pasta Point. Entre ratos de surf siempre comía en el restaurante italiano que aquí había y que finalmente fue el motivo de que su nombre sea Pasta Point, así fue como guardó el secreto hasta que apareció el conocido Resort Tari Village en 1980.

Aquí normalmente es raro que haya más de ocho personas en el agua, el resto de surfers cada vez más numerosos en Maldivas se distribuyen alrededor de otras olas muy cercanas como Sultans, Honky’s, Jails, etc… Olas que por cierto fue Tony quien también descubrió y les dio nombre. Pasta Point es una de las olas más consistentes del Atolón de Male Norte porque justo delante hay un canal de 40 metros de profundidad que canaliza las series en dirección a este arrecife. Una ola mecánica que funciona bien con cualquier tamaño, muy surfeable y con suficiente empuje para desarrollar tu mejor surfing.
