The wind is often a little stronger than in Ho’okipa when the direction is N or NE but with E wind, it’s weaker and comes off the land. The waves are always smaller and less powerful but they are longer. A very clean righthander breaks on the reef which is 300 metres from the beach and it has very good sections to turn and execute manoeuvres. It is also possible to jump when the wind is strong. The water between the reef where the wave breaks and the shore stays flat, making it a great spot for Freestyle moves and Slalom.
El viento suele ser un poco más fuerte que en Ho’okipa cuando la dirección es de norte o noreste pero cuando el viento es del este es más flojo y muy de tierra. Las olas siempre son más pequeñas y menos potentes, pero más largas. La ola rompe en un arrecife a 300 metros de la playa y es una derecha muy limpia con muy buenas secciones para hacer giros y cualquier maniobra en la ola. También se puede saltar cuando el viento está fuerte. Entre la orilla y el arrecife donde rompen las olas se queda plano y es un buen spot para de Freestyle y Slalom.
Of all the spots in Maui, this is the most accessible, with small, gentle waves which make it perfect for all levels, above all beginners and intermediates. You can go windsurfing in Kanaha NE and SW wind, although the latter is uncommon. In addition, the wind is better in the summer, especially from May until September, but the waves are better in the winter. The beach has fresh water showers, trees which provide shade, grassy areas, picnic tables and it’s also where most of the windsurf schools are based. This spot is so ideal that it easily gets busy, sometimes packed, and not just with windsurfers but with people doing other wind sports such as kitesurf.
De todos los spots que hay en Maui éste es el más accesible, con olas más pequeñas y suaves. Perfecto para todos los niveles, sobretodo principiante e intermedio. En Kanaha puedes practicar windsurf cuando el viento sopla del NE y SW, aunque este último es más inusual. Además, el viento es mejor en verano, especialmente de mayo a septiembre, pero las olas son mejores en invierno. Esta playa tiene duchas de agua dulce, árboles que ofrecen sombra, zonas con césped y mesas de picnic, además es donde están la mayoría de escuelas de windsurf de la isla. Este spot es tan ideal que se llena de gente con facilidad, podrás encontrarlo a veces abarrotado y no solo de windsurfistas, hay usuarios que practican otros deportes de vela como Kitesurf.
Maui has many interesting activities to offer. The south and west have a better climate and very beautiful beaches that are definitely worth visiting. One of the visitors’ favourites is Kaanapali Beach, which features in all the world’s best beach listings, and on the south side, Makena Beach is also world class.
Honolua Bay is a special place, above all for diving in the summer. It forms part of the Mokuleia Marine Life Conservation District for the importance of its rich marine life, you can be sure to find an abundance of fish and coral. We recommend renting the equipment from the local shops, it’ll be a lot more economical. Watching the sunrise at the Kaleakala Crater is an experience you will never forget. You’ll have to leave very early and don’t forget to take warm clothes with you. You can go with an agent on an organised trip or by yourself with a rental car if you pay a small entrance fee. If you have rented a car, you shouldn’t miss driving along Hana Highway, famous for its majestic waterfalls, wild coastline and exuberant tropical rainforest. If you visit the island in February, you are lucky as it’s the best time to see the whales during their annual migration. You’ll see them easily from the Pali cliffs, between Lahaina and Wailea.

El Sur y el Este ofrecen el mejor clima y sus bellísimas playas bien merecen una visita, una de las favoritas de los visitantes es Kaanapali Beach, candidata en todas las listas a mejor playa del mundo, en el lado sur Makena Beach es también una playa de clase mundial. Honolua Bay es un lugar privilegiado para bucear sobre todo en verano, forma parte del Mokuleia Marine Life Conservation District por la importancia de su riqueza marina, la abundancia de peces y corales está asegurada y te recomendamos que alquiles los equipos en tiendas locales, mucho más económico. Ver amanecer en el Kaleakala Crater es una experiencia que jamás olvidarás, tendrás que salir bien temprano y no olvides ropa de abrigo, podrás acceder mediante un tour organizado o por tu cuenta en coche alquilado pagando una pequeña cuota de entrada. Si has alquilado el coche no puedes perderte la carretera de Hana, famosa por sus majestuosas cascadas, costa salvaje y exuberante selva. Si te encuentras en febrero en la isla, estas de suerte puesto que es la mejor época para ver ballenas en sus migraciones anuales, desde los acantilados de Pali entre Lahaina y Wailea las podrás ver a fácilmente.
