Malaga is famous worldwide for countless aspects, but mainly the weather. The stable temperature and sunshine always makes visitors want to stay. The major drawback of this city is that the authorities and politicians do not understand the importance and scope of the international level of skateboarding in Malaga that’s been around for many years, severely punishing the practice of this activity on the streets and squares. In short, if you’re skating and you see the police approaching they’re probably not coming with good intentions.
Málaga es mundialmente famosa por infinidad de aspectos, pero el clima gana. La temperatura estable y que haga sol siempre, hace que los visitantes quieran quedarse. El gran inconveniente de esta ciudad es que las autoridades y políticos no comprenden la importancia y el alcance del Skateboarding a nivel internacional que en Málaga acontece desde hace muchos años, sancionando duramente la práctica de esta actividad en las calles y plazas. En definitiva, si estás patinando y ves que se acerca la policía, probablemente no vengan con buenas intenciones.
La Plaza de la Marina is one of the spots which is still intact and has the most history and skate sessions in Malaga, although it’s difficult to skate for a few hours without being told to leave or receiving a fine. After the fall of the PLN, the local skaters switched to the Marina. There you can enjoy banks, ledges with various heights, manual pads and various sets of stairs, all on a perfect and spacious floor which you’ll recognise from many of the videos in which it appears. The generation that saw the Marina grow included Oscar Morales ‘Fly’, Fernando Granada ‘Chiri’ and Alejandro Martínez among others. Not only locals have enjoyed this great spot, there have been many professional teams and visitors who have been here and left their mark, some have even stayed in Malaga for years. There’s something about Malaga that charms and traps those who visit.
La Plaza de la Marina es uno de los lugares que aún sigue intacto con más historia y sesiones de skate de Málaga, aunque es difícil patinar apenas unas horas sin que te echen o recibas una multa. Tras la caída de la mítica PLN, los skaters locales se trasladaron a la Marina, donde se puede disfrutar de planos inclinados, bordillos de diferentes alturas, manual pads y varias escaleras. Todo ello en un suelo perfecto y amplio que reconocerás de los numerosos vídeos internacionales en los que aparece. La generación que vió evolucionar la Marina son Oscar Morales ‘Fly’, Fernando Granada ‘Chiri’ y Alejandro Martínez, entre otros. No solo los locales han disfrutado de este gran spot, han sido muchísimos los equipos de profesionales y viajeros que han pasado por aquí y han dejado huella, e incluso algunos han permaneciendo en Málaga durante años. Algo tiene Málaga que atrapa con sus encantos a quien la visita.
There used to be many possibilities for skating in Malaga, like the PLN, the promenade and the Plaza de la Victoria etc. but now many places have changed or the police punish you for skating there. The local skaters, due to the increasing pressure from the police, constructed some extremely fun elements in the river Guadalmedina and these are some of the only ones that you can skate peacefully in Malaga today. Go to the river, next to the enormous NH Hotel, and there you’ll find the locals ready to greet you with kindness and respect. La Plaza de la Marina is located in the heart of Malaga city and the square leads to the busiest shopping street called Calle Larios. If you go up this street, you’ll reach the old town and the Cervantes Theatre and this is where you’ll find El Argentino de Cervantes, a small cafe where you can get the best sandwiches in the city. There are also many tapas bars along this street. If you want to do some sightseeing whilst in Malaga, you should visit the Alcazaba, the port, the cathedral, the Gibralfaro Castle, the Carmen Thyssen Museum, Los Mártires church, the Picasso Museum and the Santa María de la Victoria Basilica.
Antes había más posibilidades para patinar en Málaga, como la PLN, el Paseo Marítimo, Plaza de la Victoria, etc. Ahora muchos lugares se han modificado o simplemente la policía sanciona por patinar. Los skaters locales, ante la presión policial, construyeron en el curso del río Guadalmedina unos módulos muy divertidos que hoy en día son lo poco que queda para patinar en Málaga tranquilamente. Pásate por el río, junto al enorme edificio del Hotel NH, allí encontrarás a la calidad local dispuesta a recibirte con su característica amabilidad y su gracia. La Plaza de la Marina está situada en pleno centro neurálgico de la ciudad de Málaga, la misma plaza sale a la calle más concurrida y comercial, la Calle Larios, si subes dicha calle entrarás en el casco antiguo y llegarás al Teatro Cervantes, donde puedes encontrar El Argentino del Cervantes, un pequeño puesto de comida en donde tienen los mejores bocadillos de toda la ciudad. Antes de llegar al Argentino puedes encontrar mil bares de tapas. Si quieres dar una vuelta turística a Málaga no dejes de ver la Alcazaba, el Puerto de Málaga, la Catedral, el Castillo de Gibralfaro, el Museo Carmen Thyssen, la Iglesia de Los Mártires, el Museo Picasso y la Basílica de Santa María de la Victoria.
