Desert Point needs at least 6 ft and SW swell and light SE offshore wind. Sometimes it can be totally flat, even in the best months of the season, and other times without warning, it unexpectedly appears, rewarding the surfers that are waiting patiently in the warungs in front of the wave. Sometimes the drop in is attainable but it quickly becomes very fast and difficult if you don’t know it. It consists of several sections and you must be careful because it will get bigger, shallow and hollower all the way, especially in the last section, ‘Growers’, which breaks very shallowly on the reef. The best tide, exclusively for the best surfers, is mid to low tide, but it sometimes works with high tide without being so aggressive. You have to enter the water head-on towards the outside of the wave, cautiously waiting for a lull between the sets. It is advisable to wear boots and it’s very important to respect the good locals that surf there.

A veces puede estar totalmente plato incluso en los mejores meses de temporada, y otras veces sin aviso aparece inesperadamente. Cuando eso ocurre es una fiesta para todos los surfers que esperan pacientemente en los warung en frente de la ola.

A veces el ”drop in” es asequible, pero rápidamente se hace muy rápida y difícil si no la conoces. Se compone de varias secciones, y deberás estar atento porque se hará más grande, hueca y seca conforme avanzas en ella, sobre todo en la última sección de Growers que rompe extremadamente seca sobre el arrecife. El mejor punto de marea y exclusivamente para los mejores surfers es de media marea a baja, pero a veces también con marea alta funciona sin ser tan agresiva. Se entra en dirección hacia el outside y de frente a la ola esperando con precaución un momento de calma entre series. Es recomendable llevar botines y muy importante respetar a los buenos locales que allí surfean.

Desert Point is located at Lombok island and is known locally as Bangko-Bangko beach. This wave is for many, the best lefthand in the world for various reasons, those being its dynamism, length and intensity above all because it can create barrels of more than twenty seconds, something which hardly exists elsewhere in the world, so many surfers eagerly look forward to being there with the right conditions. A good option if you find yourself in Bali is to go to Padang Bai and take the four hour ferry that arrives at Lembar port. If you rented a motorbike you can take it with you. The other option is to hire a speedboat, but bear in mind that when you arrive it’ll be useful to rent a motorbike.

Desert Point may be the best left in the world, but it’s very inconsistent, even in season. If this is the case, check the whole south east coastline of the island that faces the Indian Ocean because it hides prestigious waves. Another very good alternative is to check the Kuta Lombok area while you wait for Desert Point to wake up. Together with Lombok, it’s a perfect trip to escape the crowds of Bali. You’ll find very cheap accommodation around Bangko-Bangko, but if you want to sleep in the cabins in front of Desert Point don’t expect any frills, however, if you get that far and the surf is good, you probably won’t mind. It’s recommended to take precaution with Malaria in Lombok.

Desert Point se encuentra en la isla de Lombok, en un lugar conocido localmente como Bangko-Bangko beach. Esta es para muchos la mejor izquierda del mundo, las razones principales son, aparte de por su longitud e intensidad, sobre todo porque se pueden alcanzar tubos de más de veinte segundos, algo difícilmente posible en otro lugar del mundo. Ello hace que sean muchos los que ansiosos esperan condiciones para estar ahí. Una buena opción si tu centro de operaciones es Bali, será dirigirte a Padang Bai y coger el ferry de cuatro horas que llega al puerto de Lembar. Si alquilaste una moto podrás llevarla contigo. La siguiente opción es contratar una embarcación rápida, pero ten en cuenta que al llegar te será muy útil alquilar una moto.

Desert Point puede que sea la mejor izquierda del mundo, pero es muy inconsistente incluso en temporada. En este caso chequea toda la línea de costa orientada al Suroeste que está totalmente enfrentada al Océano Índico, ya que esconde olas de reconocido prestigio. Es una alternativa muy buena chequear la zona de Kuta lombok mientras esperas que Desert Point funcione. Lombok es una experiencia y opción perfecta para escapar de la masificación de Bali. En Bangko-Bangko encontrarás alojamiento muy barato, dormirás en cabañas justo en frente de Desert Point, no esperes grandes lujos, de todos modos está claro que si vienes hasta aquí es en busca de las mejores olas, no de lujos. En Lombok es recomendable tomar precauciones para prevenir la malaria.
