This spot can vary from being flat, choppy or even wavy. The Tramontana wind (NW) brings good conditions for Race and Freestyle. It can sometimes reach 40 knots. With Marin (SE, it brings waves, most of which break on the shore. The best conditions come when the Marin changes to Tramontana as the waves become cleaner, however this isn’t very common and, if it happens, it only lasts a few hours.

The Tramontana wind is strong, offshore and gusty. The Marin is side-onshore and tends to be more moderate. The best winds come between spring and autumn, from the middle of February through to October. It’s a long beach, without rocks so it’s easy to launch the kite. In the Étang de Leucate you can sail without any restrictions. You can easily stand in the lake, making it safer, but be careful not to sail too close to the shoreline so you don’t damage your fins. It works all year round but it’s difficult during July and August because there are many swimmers.

Cuando el viento sopla de Tramontana (NW) se dan buenas condiciones para Race y Freestyle, en ocasiones llegando a alcanzar 40 nudos. Con Marin (SE) hay olas que acaban rompiendo la mayoría en la orilla. Las mejores condiciones se dan cuando el Marin torna a Tramontana, momento en el cual las olas son muy limpias, pero esto no es muy común y tan sólo dura unas pocas horas.

El viento de Tramontana es fuerte, off shore y racheado. El Marin es sideonshore, más moderado. Los mejores vientos se dan en primavera y otoño, de mediados de febrero a octubre. La playa es larga y no tiene rocas, con lo que no hay problema para poner en marcha las cometas. En el Étang de Leucate podemos navegar sin ningún tipo de restricción. En éste lago podemos ponernos de pie, permitiendo navegar más seguro y sin necesidad de hacer waterstart, pero también hay que prestar atención al acercarnos a la orilla y clavar las quillas en la arena. Funciona todo el año, pero en los meses de julio y agosto es difícil navegar debido a la masificación de bañistas.

La Franqui is a residential zone located in Leucate, in the south of France. It receives constant winds, around 300 days a year. At this spot you can enjoy the Mediterranean Sea and the nearby saltwater lakes. Every April the Mondial du Vent event is held for elite kite and windsurfers. It also became a host for the Kiteboarding and Freestyle World Tour (PKRA). The Étang de Leucate is very near to the spot. It’s a lake where you can stand comfortably and sail without any restrictions so it’s perfect for beginners and freestylers looking for flat and choppy conditions. However, you must pay attention not to sail too close to the shore so you don’t damage your fins. Les Coussoules is like a continuation of La Franqui, towards the north, so the conditions there are very similar.

La Franqui es una zona residencial en la localidad de Leucate, al sur de Francia, cuyas condiciones de viento son constantes 300 días al año. Este spot goza de aguas del mar Mediterráneo y también de lagos de agua salada muy cercanos. Aquí se celebra el evento internacional que reúne todos los años en abril a kitesurfers y windsurfers de élite, el ‘Mondial du Vent’. También se convirtió en sede del circuito de la Copa del Mundo de kitesurf en freestyle (PKRA) en 2008. Muy cerca se encuentra el Étang de Leucate, un lago donde podemos navegar sin ningún tipo de restricción, siendo una gran ventaja poder hacer pie y navegar de forma más segura y sin necesidad de hacer waterstart, perfecto para principiantes y freestylers que buscan aguas flat o choppy. Sin embargo, hay que prestar atención con acercarse demasiado a la orilla y clavar las quillas en la arena. Les Coussoules puede considerarse la continuación de la playa de la Franqui hacia el norte, por tanto, las condiciones van a ser muy similares.
