Flat water or choppy conditions from the shore to the reef with a sandy seabed and a water depth of between one and three metres. Behind the reef, which is about 600 metres from the shore, you’ll find waves – the size depends on the tide. You’ll find bigger waves out at Manawa and above all, One Eye, where it’s only recommended for experienced kiters as the waves break over a shallow rocky reef. The Brabant monolith causes the wind to accelerate. It stays consistent and is SW, usually between 15 and 27 knots in the winter months from May to October which is when the tide is highest. From December to April, the wind usually blows between 10 and 21 knots.

Tras la barrera de coral, a unos 600 metros, pueden navegarse olas de diferentes tamaños según la marea. En Manawa y One Eye las olas son respetables, sobretodo en One Eye, siendo sólo aconsejable para expertos o profesionales ya que la ola rompe en un arrecife rocoso y poco profundo. El monte Brabant crea un efecto local de aceleración del viento, siendo muy constante y de componente suroeste, con una media de 15 a 27 nudos en invierno, es decir, los meses de mayo a octubre, que es cuando la marea es más alta. Entre diciembre y abril el viento suele soplar de 10 a 21 nudos.
Mauritius is an island in the southwest of the Indian Ocean. Also known as Beach Island, it’s a paradise surrounded by blue crystal clear lagoons that are protected by coral reefs. The Le Morne Brabant peninsula, at the most south westerly point of the island is gaining popularity and is the main place to surf on the island. The steep monolith causes the wind to accelerate and become more intense, both in strength and regularity.
The reef, which is 600 metres from the shore forms a lagoon that is perfect for beginners as well as more experienced riders and freestylers that want flat water or choppy conditions. Depending on the tide, small waves occasionally form behind the reef but for those that are looking for real waves, you have the option of going to One Eye or Manawa which are a few kilometres offshore. Flights from Dubai, Qatar and Johannesburg go to the Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, better known as the SSR Airport. From there you can get a taxi or the bus, however, most accommodations organise airport transfers.
Mauricio es un país insular, situado al suroeste del Océano Índico. Se conoce en todo el mundo como Isla Playa y es considerado como un paraíso rodeado de lagunas protegidas por barreras de coral con aguas cristalinas de tonos azules. La península de Le Morne Brabant, en el extremo suroeste de la isla, goza de una creciente popularidad, siendo la zona principal donde se navega en la isla.
El monte de Brabant crea un efecto local de aceleración que intensifica el viento, tanto en fuerza como en regularidad, y la situación del arrecife a unos 600 metros de la orilla forma una laguna perfecta para principiantes, intermedios y freestylers que buscan agua plana o choppy. Además, tras el arrecife es posible navegar olas suaves, dependiendo de la marea. Pero para aquellos que buscan olas, tienen la opción de navegar en One Eye o Manawa, a pocos kilómetros mar adentro. Hay vuelos desde Dubai, Qatar y Johannesburgo que llegan hasta el Aeropuerto Internacional Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, más conocido como SSR Airport. Desde aquí se puede ir en taxi o autobús, aunque los mismos lugares donde hospedarse suelen organizar recogidas al aeropuerto.
Le Morne is in the Black River district and is famous for the luxury hotels and expensive lifestyle. The activities available aren’t suitable for all budgets but you can get to know a lot of the area economically. The area is home to most of the country’s tropical rainforests and amongst the vegetation in the northwest of the island you’ll find the Tamarin waterfalls which are around 250 metres tall.
Apart from the luxury resorts it’s easy to find accommodation. It’s also possible to stay in the house of a local, paying them around the price of a hostel. You just have to ask around and the locals will inform you. In Le Morne there are also trekking routes that guide you to the marvellous Le Morne Brabant monolith. It used to be a refuge for runaway slaves until slavery on Mauritius was abolished in 1835. The mountain is now an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Grand Bassin is a crater that reminds you of the island’s volcanic origin. It’s covered in water and forms the most important lake in Mauritius. It’s a holy place for Hindu practitioners and in the entrance of the temple you’ll see the statue of Lord Shiva which is the tallest in Mauritius at 33 metres. You should also visit the Black River Gorges National Park, the largest in Mauritius, where you can do long hiking routes through the tropical indigenous rainforest amongst many species of plants and animals and with breathtaking views of the canyon and waterfalls.
Le Morne se encuentra en el diistrito de Black River, famoso por sus hoteles de lujo y vida ostentosa, las actividades no son aptas para cualquier bolsillo, pero podéis conocer gran parte de la zona de forma económica. La zona posee gran parte de los bosques tropicales del país, y en ellos se encuentran las Cascadas de Tamarín en el Noroeste de la isla, una opción muy interesantante donde veréis saltos de agua desde 250 metros de altura sobre el denso bosque tropical.
En mauricio además de predomonar los lujosos resorts es facil encontrar alojamiento. Por 20 euros podrás pernoctar en la casa de algún lugareño, tan sólo debes preguntar y amáblemente os recomendarán algún conocido que os dará cobijo a excelente precio. En el mismo Le Morne, hay senderos de trekking que os guiarán hacia la montaña de Le Morne Brabant, un antigua montaña, refugio de esclavos que os deleitará con unas maravillosas vistas. La montaña es patrimonio de la Unesco. En el Grand Bassin encontraréis uno de los cráteres que recuerdan el origen Volcánico de la isla, está cubierto de agua y lo hacen el lago má importante de mauricio. Es un lugar sagrado para los practicantes de la religión hindú, en la entrada al gran templo se encuentran las 2 estátuas más grandes de Mauricio de 33 metros de altuta y con los dioses Shiva y Durga Maa Bhavani. La última opción que no te puedes perder es la visita al National Black River Gorges donde realizaréis largos senderos a través de la selva tropical. Se extiende desde rio Pico, la montaña más alta de la isla, la cual nos va a ofrecer unas estupendas panorámicas de la zona.
