It works with NE wind but also needs a medium to large NW swell. The wind is slightly gusty as it’s located on the south side of the mountain, but this location helps to produce very long, perfect rights. The bay is also a freeriding spot when the conditions are suitable.
Funciona cuando el viento viene del NE, además requiere un swell medio o grande del NW. El viento es un poco racheado, ya que se sitúa al sur de la montaña, lo que hace que las olas no se echen a perder y puede producir perfectas derechas muy largas. También la bahía es un gran lugar para el freeriding, con agua plana y transparente.
Monte Leão is generally a surf spot, but when the wind comes from the NE it transforms into a good windsurfing spot. It’s named after the big mountain which is just behind the beach, which has magnificent views. It requires a medium or large swell from the NW to work. It’s located south of the mountain and because of this the wind is slightly gusty, but it means the waves don’t get ruined and it can produce perfect rights which are very long. The bay is also a popular place for freeriding when the conditions are right with transparent flat water. On the other side of the mountain, towards the north, you’ll find Alibaba and Curral Joul is a few more kilometres further north.
Monte Leão es generalmente un spot de surf, pero cuando el viento viene del NE se transforma en un buen lugar para el windsurf. Debe su nombre a la gran montaña justo tras la playa, la cual posee unas vistas magníficas. Requiere un swell medio o grande del NW para funcionar. Se sitúa al sur de la montaña y esto favorece que el viento sea un poco racheado, lo que hace que las olas no se echen a perder y puede producir perfectas derechas muy largas. También la bahía es un gran lugar para el freeriding, con agua plana y transparente. Tras la otra cara de la montaña, hacia el norte, se encuentra el spot Alibaba, y unos kilómetros más al norte Curral Joul.
The tropical island of Sal is rare and original. It’s an island full of contrasts and its aridity resembles a lunar landscape. Culturally, Cape Verde was a stop off point for the slave ships which were heading to America. The descendants of those slaves mixed with the Portuguese settlers and this created an ethnic mosaic and extraordinary culture which is well worth getting to know.
Discover the desert landscapes and the rest of the island in a rented 4×4 whilst listening to Funaná (the local energetic Cape Verdean music). You’ll find some good scuba diving clubs as Cape Verde is a place with a confluence of ocean currents and abundant and varied marine life. You can explore the shipwrecks, marine caves, cliffs that are only accessible by boat, see dolphins, morays, small sharks, lobsters, manta rays, turtles and much more. For the same reason the fishing is very good and you can try Jigging, a popular vertical deep water fishing technique that allows you to catch larger prey.
Una versión poco común y original en cuanto a isla tropical se refiere, Isla de Sal, es una isla de contrastes, en ocasiones su aridez se asemeja a un paisaje lunar en toda regla. Culturalmente Cabo Verde fue un punto de parada para los barcos de esclavos rumbo a las Américas, y los descendientes de estos esclavos se han mezclado con los colonos portugueses creando un mosaico étnico y cultural extraordinario que merece la pena conocer.

Por las mismas razones la pesca es muy rica y podrás practicar el cada vez más popular Jigging, modalidad de pesca vertical en aguas profundas que permite capturar grandes presas.
