Longfengtou Beach is a big wave spot. The wind component is NE and the best time of year for these conditions is from April to June and September to November. The conditions are also suitable for windsurfing and surfing.

Pingtan Island, also known as Haitan Island, is China’s fifth largest island and is located in the Fujian province, in the East China Sea. It’s possibly the windiest location in China with an average of 20 knots, often reaching 30 knots during the monsoon season. Due to these consistent conditions, it is the windiest and one of the most popular kitesurfing spots in China and it is why one of the beaches, called Longfengtou, was chosen by the PKRA to host a stop of the Kiteboarding World Cup.
Pingtan Island was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2001 and was only accessible by ferry in the past, this made it very difficult for the island to develop economically and meant that it had almost been forgotten about. However, more recently it has become one of China’s economic development zones, as it is the gateway into China for Taiwan, and in 2010 the Pingtan Straits Bridge was completed meaning the journey to Fuzhou on the mainland was reduced to one and a half hours and the industrial development across the Straits was increased. The government decided to develop the island’s beautiful 400 metre long coastline which is full of sandy bays and rocky outcroppings into tourist areas, some of these being a large lake, two beach resorts and a sub-tropical climate with consistent winds, flat water spots and waves.
The spot at Longfengtou Beach is just a one and a half hour drive from Fuzhou Airport, 45 minutes from Fuqing Railway Station, and about three hours from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport. This beach is among the best for the highest water and sand quality in China and is also the location of the Pingtan Kitesurfing Centre, China’s first training centre for professional kitesurfing and from where you can rent equipment and organise lessons.
Pingtan, también conocida como Haitan Island, es la quinta isla más larga de China y se encuentra en la provincia de Fujian, en el Mar Oriental de China. Es probablemente el lugar de China con más viento, con una media de 20 nudos. Durante el monzón los vientos pueden alcanzar los 30 nudos. Debido a estas consistentes condiciones es el lugar escogido por la PKRA en China, cuya playa conocida como Longfengtou es anfitriona de una parada de la Copa Mundial de Kiteboarding.
Pingtan fue añadida a la lista provisional de patrimonio de la humanidad de la UNESCO en 2001 y sólo era accesible por ferry, lo que hacía muy difícil el desarrollo económico y casi fue olvidada. Sin embargo, más recientemente se ha convertido en una de las zonas de desarrollo económico en China, ya que es la puerta de entrada a Taiwán y en 2010 se completó el Pingtan Straits Bridge, conectando el continente a una hora y media en coche. El gobierno decidió desarrollar 400 metros de costa llena de calas de arena y afloramientos rocosos en zonas turísticas, algunas de las cuales son ahora un gran lago, dos resorts de playa con un clima sub-tropical de vientos constantes, además de puntos de agua plana y olas.
El spot de Longfengtou Beach está a solo una hora y media de Fuzhou Airport, a 45 minutos de la estación Fuqing Railway y a unas tres horas de Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport. Esta playa es una de las mejores de China, tanto en calidad de las aguas como de la arena y también su localización del Pingtan Kitesurfing Centre, el primer centro profesional de Kitesurfing donde puedes dar clases y alquilar material.
Although there isn’t a lot to do there, Pingtan Island is well worth exploring as it has many incredible scenic spots which reveal different aspects of the place such as the seascapes, deserted wooden ships, small stone dwellings and the colourful sunrises and sunsets. More and more visitors go there each year however the locals don’t speak much English so communication can be difficult.
There are other good kitesurf spots on the island. Red Rock is at the north of Longfengtou Beach and offers flat water conditions, LV Beach also offers flat water conditions in the east of the island, Changjiang Beach is another big wave spot located in the north and finally, Tannanwan Beach has various zones, each offering different conditions from flat water to waves.
Aunque no hay mucho que hacer allí, la isla de Pingtan es muy interesante, ya que tiene muchos lugares turísticos increíbles que revelan diferentes aspectos del lugar, tales como las olas del mar, barcos de madera abandonados, pequeñas casas de piedra, junto con los amaneceres y puestas de sol de diversos colores. Más y más visitantes van allí cada año, sin embargo los lugareños no hablan mucho inglés así que la comunicación podría ser difícil.
Hay otros buenos spots de kitesurf en la isla. Red Rock se encuentra en el norte de Longfengtou Beach y ofrece condiciones de agua plana. LV Beach también ofrece condiciones de agua plana en el este de la isla. Changjiang Beach es otro gran spot de olas situado en el norte. Finalmente, Tannanwan Beach, que tiene varias zonas y cada una de ellas con diferentes condiciones, desde agua plana a olas.
