Pupuya is more of spot for jumping than for waveriding as the wind, which is often very constant, is side onshore. You can usually sail there when the wind is weaker at the other nearby spots. There are rocks on the shore but the wave breaks over a sandy seabed with 2 or 3 very powerful sections and with low tide it gets very shallow.
Pupuya es más un spot para saltar que para surfear ya que el viento es constante y la dirección es side onshore. Se suele navegar allí cuando el viento es flojo en los otros spots cercanos, porque el viento se acelera más. En la orilla hay rocas pero el fondo donde rompe la ola es de arena. La ola tiene 2 o 3 secciones muy potentes y con marea baja hay muy poco fondo.
Pupuya is a rural area with beautiful natural landscapes, astonishing cliffs, large beaches, awesome rock formations and an unmatchable biodiversity. The coastal area is framed in the valley by two mountains and more wind tends to be generated there than in the surroundings. It’s only 5 minutes from the well known spot, Matanzas. If you are a beginner it’s advisable to consult the locals about the best places to enter and exit the water. This spot has good conditions for jumping with the strong wind from the south and a small lagoon that’s perfect for freestyle.
Pupuya es una zona muy rural con hermosos parajes naturales, acantilados asombrosos, extensas playas, formaciones rocosas alucinantes y una biodiversidad sin igual. La zona costera ofrece un spot enmarcado en el valle entre dos montañas, donde se genera más viento que en los alrededores, a tan solo 5 minutos del reconocido spot de Matanzas. Si eres principiante lo mejor es consultarle a los lugareños sobre el lugar donde entrar y salir del agua. En este lugar existen buenas condiciones para el salto, viento fuerte de componente sur y una pequeña laguna de agua para freestylers.
The rural enclave of Pupuya is predominated by agriculture, livestock and since relatively recently, the increasing tourism for extreme sports like surfing, windsurfing, diving and cycling. The main attractions are the beautiful landscapes, the cliffs, the large beaches with bizarre rock formations, ‘Los Arcos’ being the most well known of these. You can also look for the different animal species like the sea lions and rare birds that live on the small island. If you walk towards the north you’ll see Matanzas where you’ll also find a small area with rural houses and pine forests. Stop there for a moment and visit the viewpoint where you’ll find a sculpture called ‘Camarón’. It’s made of scrap metal and has a swing attached, perfect to take in the views.
En el enclave rural de Pupuya predominan la agricultura, la ganadería y, desde hace relativamente poco, un gran turismo de deportes extremos como surf, windsurf, buceo y ciclismo. Los atractivos turísticos son los hermosos paisajes naturales, los acantilados, las extensas playas y extrañas formaciones rocosas, siendo “Los Arcos” la más conocida del lugar. Además, podrás contemplar las distintas especies animales como lobos marinos y aves singulares que se encuentran en el islote. Si caminas hacia el norte podrás ver el conocido spot de Matanzas. Aquí también encontraras una pequeña zona de casas campesinas y bosques de pinos, párate un instante en el lugar y visita el mirador en el cual podrás ver la escultura conocida como “camarón”, que es una mezcla de varios objetos metálicos de desecho con forma de crustáceo que a su vez sirve de columpio.
