In general this spot has choppy conditions. With strong NW wind there’ll be big waves. Take care with the low tide as there can be strong currents. When there is S wind, you could find that there is a strong N current and it’ll be difficult to go upwind. During the summer months of July and August there could be some windy days but it’s better during the rest of the year.
En general se encuentran condiciones caóticas de choppy en este spot. Con fuerte viento del noroeste puede acumularse una gran ola. Hay que tener cuidado con la marea baja que crea fuertes corrientes. Cuando el viento viene del sur se puede encontrar con corrientes del norte y es complicado ir contra el viento. En época veraniega, julio y agosto, unas veces sopla el viento y otras no. El resto del año hay mejores condiciones.
The Sankt Peter-Ording beach has such a huge extension, twelve kilometres long and up to two kilometres wide, that it’s divided into sections. You’ll have to pay a tourist fee to be able to park on the beach and in the wider zones you’ll need to fight against the wind to get to the water with your equipment. The good thing is that there is a lot of wind and when it’s strong and from the NW, it generates good waves, above all in the first two hours when the tide is falling. With onshore wind, the south beach is an option, although it’s quite a way between the car park and the water. The best time of year is from March to October. In the summer, July and August, the beach is full of life and there is more tourism, meaning there are more leisure activities and nightlife on offer.
La playa de Sankt Peter-Ording tiene una extensión enorme, unos doce kilómetros de largo y hasta dos kilómetros de ancho, de modo que se divide en secciones. En las zonas amplias hay que luchar contra el viento para llegar al agua con todo el equipo. Además, hay que pagar una tasa de turista para aparcar en la playa. Lo bueno es que hay mucho viento y cuando sopla fuerte del NW genera buenas olas, sobre todo en las primeras dos horas, cuando la marea está bajando. Con viento onshore la playa Sur es una opción, aunque hay una gran distancia entre el parking y el agua. La mejor temporada es de marzo a octubre. En verano, julio y agosto, la playa se llena de vida, aumenta el número de turistas e incrementan las actividades de ocio y fiesta.
The combination of leisure and relaxing activities, along with the spacious beach is what stands out in Sankt Peter-Ording. A visit to Westküstenpark is recommended. There you can connect with nature in the fourteen and a half hectares which is also home to over 800 domestic and wild animals. The Landschaft Eiderstedt Museum, close to the church, offers an interesting insight into the history of the city. In the Nationalpark-Haus you can see interactive exhibits relating to the water, sand and wind and also find out about the docks. You could also visit the Nordseebernstein Museum to discover the secrets of amber and look for some of these precious stones on the beaches in the area. Other popular tourist attractions are the lighthouses Backstein in Böhl and the famous Westerheversand.
En Sankt Peter-Ording destaca la mezcla de ocio y actividades de descanso, además de su espaciosa playa. Es aconsejable visitar el Westküstenpark, un lugar para tomar contacto con la naturaleza de catorce hectáreas y media con más de 800 animales domésticos y salvajes. El Museum der Landschaft Eiderstedt cerca de la iglesia ofrece una visión interesante de la historia de esta ciudad. En Nationalpark-Haus conocerás con exposiciones interactivas la relación del agua, la arena y el viento, además de obtener una visión sobre la vida en frente del dique. Visita el Nordseebernsteinmuseum para conocer los secretos del ámbar y encontrar estas piedras precisas en las playas de Sankt Peter-Ording. Otras atracciones turísticas son los faros, el Backstein en Böhl y el famoso Westerheversand.
